Elke Halbmayer’s art emerges where familiar structures become fragile and certainties uncertain, and where the language for the new is in the process of emerging. For the artist, the act of doing is of great importance. For it is through repeated action that she is able to engage in an expanded thought process that occurs through the body and brings her new insights. Through repetition and working in series, she gains a deep understanding of her materials and senses how, over time and through the creative process, an inner order emerges that manifests itself in objects and drawings.

Elke Halbmayer views all living things as growing entities, and each of her works in its form is no exception—guided by the idea that truth lies in the process itself. Her works emerge from the union of thought and action, experiment and craftsmanship, as a process of drawing and shaping that points beyond the visible and makes tangible for her the dialogue between her hands, the material, and time—as a connection between science and art, between understanding and feeling.
